Message From the Dean

Civil engineering, which involves industries such as housing and city construction, highways, railways, airports, dykes and dams, ports, wharves, and underground projects, is the base of not only national economic and social development but also people’s lives. Integrating with related disciplines such as Exploring, Information and Materials, the traditional and ancient discipline of civil engineering is full of vitality.

China’s infrastructure construction has drawn attention from all over the world. With the rapid development of new urbanization, construction of rail transit in cities is still making progress, underground space exploration remains a tough task, and the national strategic position of ocean development becomes more and more prominent, all of which lead to the urgent need of civil engineering talents at all levels.

Civil engineering of SYSU was reestablished in 2016 and began to enroll students in 2017, which conformed with the development tendency of the discipline of civil engineering and met the great national need of talents. The new School of Civil Engineering has been founded under most favorable circumstances. The school is ready to make significant developments and strive ahead. We are looking forward to active participation of aspiring people from all fields to walk hand in hand with us and create a wonderful future together!
